One of our priorities at St. John’s is the safety of our students and staff. In 2022, with guidance from the Parent-Teacher League (PTL), a Big Project was undertaken to update and upgrade some important safety infrastructures including fire safety systems, surveillance systems, and door access systems. With these updates, we will be able to better respond to emergencies and keep our students and staff safe.
If a student attending St. John’s were to pay the full cost of education they would be looking at upwards of $8000! But because of the generous support from the congregation of St. John’s Lutheran Church, PTL fundraisers, and other support the cost has been kept to less than half of the actual cost. The Board of Christian Education is responsible for setting the tuition annually, so it does vary from year to year. If cost is an issue, we will work with families and do everything we can to make it work.
The curriculum at St. John’s is chosen by a team of teachers and the principal who utilize age-appropriate and grade-level standards in conjunction with Biblical values to ensure students are learning materials comparable with their public school counterparts but from a Biblical perspective.
At St. John’s, we know that parents can have stressful schedules. We want to relieve some of that by offering our before and after-school care program for Kindergarten – 6th grade students. Students can be signed in as early as 6 AM and can bring a breakfast snack along. Students will be released at 7:30 to go to their classrooms. If care is needed after school, the teacher will dismiss students to go to the extended care room where the worker will sign the student in. Care is offered as late as 6 PM. Students can bring snacks. Activities, homework time, and playtime will be part of the afterschool program. Families sign up for this service before school starts and are billed on a monthly basis.
St. John’s is blessed to have a great relationship with Central Public Schools, along with MN student transportation laws, which allow for students who live in the Central School District to utilize public school buses at no additional cost for prekindergarten through 8th grade. Unfortunately, this is not the case for families that live out of the Central School district.
St. John’s is also blessed to be able to transport preschool students to and from home or daycare so they may attend St. John’s Preschool classes with our own childcare van. There is no additional cost for this service, and we extend our range up to eight miles from St. John’s Lutheran School.
Parents know when their child is ready for school. St. John’s offers an opportunity for introducing your child to school by hosting a preschool program starting with children who turn 3 years old by September 1 and are potty trained. The growth continues as 4-year-olds in our Pre-Kindergarten program and then it is off to Kindergarten! Before you know it, they’ll be graduating from 8th grade! Don’t blink!
At St. John’s we offer a variety of extracurricular activities from sports like cross country, volleyball, flag football, basketball, to chess club, cribbage club, yearbook, Breakout EDU, and Knowledge Bowl.
Over the years, our parents have had the opportunity to make a choice for high school that best matches their child’s interests and abilities. Most often our eighth-grade class is split between Mayer Lutheran High School and Central Public School. However, we have also had students attend Southwest Christian and Holy Family Catholic.
We are constantly adding new sports and activities based on the needs and interests of our students. If you don’t see it now, it might be something added in the future. We also partner with other schools in athletics if a we absolutely cannot accommodate a need.
